After years of research, R & D department in our company invented a method for preparation of high-purity molybdenum oxide by decomposing molybdenite and applied for a number of patents. The application number is 200810049410.

This invention relates to non-ferrous metallurgy technology, especially suitable for the preparation of high purity molybdenum oxide by a vacuum decomposing method. The method includes two steps. The first step is to prepare non-ferrous metal impurities and molybdenum powder with very low content of S. The second step is to oxidize the molybdenum powder into high-purity molybdenum oxide and produce high-purity MoO3 powder. This invention that hasn’t had SO2 emissions and recycling issues, reduce emission and also enhance the overall efficiency of resources. It can also serve as raw materials that prepare for molybdenum powder by hydrogen reduction, and will be able to get high purity molybdenum powder which will be applied in a broader fields.

A method for preparation of high-purity molybdenum oxide by decomposing molybdenite, its characteristics are: The method includes two steps. The first step is to prepare non-ferrous metal impurities and molybdenum powder with very low content of S. The second step is to oxidize the molybdenum powder into high-purity molybdenum oxide and produce high-purity MoO3 powder. The details are as follows: First, prepare non-ferrous metal impurities and molybdenum powder with very low content of S.1) Make molybdenite powder into a globular or blocky structure with the particle size of 5mm~15mm. 2) drying the globular or blocky Molybdenum. 3)Preparing molybdenum by high temperature vacuum furnace. In the course of high-temperature vacuum decomposition of molybdenite, the temperature is chosen as 1300℃~2000℃ while the vacuum is controlled at 0.01 ~ 100Pa, the time of constant temperature is within 80-240min.

The sulfur vapor produced during high-temperature vacuum decomposition, first liquefied and then solidified so as to recover sulfur. 4)After cooling, then crush the metal molybdenum into coarse molybdenum powder. The particle size is less than < 0.5mm. Second, oxidize the molybdenum powder into high-purity molybdenum oxide. 1) By oxidizing and roasting the molybdenum powder, then generate gaseous MoO3. In the process of oxidizing and roasting molybdenum powder, the temperature was controlled at 750℃~1300℃, the time of constant temperature is within 15-25min.2)Through condensation, then get solid-state MoO3 with 99.9% purity.
